CULTURE NEWS

  • The Connecticut Master Chorale will hold its Holiday Prelude Concert at First Congregational Church in Danbury on Nov 23 at 3 p.m.—the event will feature carols, gospel songs, and piano by Joseph Jacovino.  The Ridgefield Press
  • Ridgefield High School Madrigals rehearsed at their school on Tuesday and will perform at Radio City Music Hall’s Christmas Spectacular Pre-Show tomorrow at 3:55 p.m.—they will sing The Holly and the Ivy and Jingle Bell Rock before the Rockettes begin their show. Choral director Lauren Verney-Fink said the group is set for ten holiday events over the next six weeks.  The Ridgefield Press

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • A new fall birding guide has been released for Connecticut that highlights over 60 species to watch, including eagles, ducks, and other waterfowl as migration patterns change. Milan Bull from the Connecticut Audubon Society said climate change may extend fall migration—leading to more sightings of rare birds like ruby-throated hummingbirds.  The Ridgefield Press

FINANCE NEWS

  • Connecticut Lottery reported that no state player won Wednesday night's Powerball jackpot, and the largest win was only $200. The jackpot increased to $629 million with a cash option of $294.5 million while a player from New Jersey claimed $1 million, and the next drawing is scheduled for Saturday night.  The Ridgefield Press

SPORTS NEWS

  • Central Connecticut State has built one of the most regionally compact nonconference basketball schedules by limiting travel to 1,299 round-trip miles and using bus rides+locker room meals to cut costs and reduce fatigue. Other local programs like New Haven and Fairfield are also planning games close to home to manage expenses and ease travel.  The Ridgefield Press
