Good morning, Danbury. Here's your local news at a glance for Thursday, the 2nd of October.

ECONOMY NEWS

  • The Connecticut Insurance Department launched a new online tool on Tuesday that lets homeowners enter their address to check flood, wind and wildfire risks for property damage and insurance rate hikes. The tool uses advanced modeling to provide risk scores—helping property owners make informed insurance decisions.  The Ridgefield Press

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Several new state laws took effect Wednesday, and one law classified e-bikes with batteries over 3,500 watts as motor-driven vehicles that must be registered and insured like motorcycles.  News 12 Connecticut
  • Local leaders including Danbury’s Mayor Roberto Alves and other nearby officials warned that the rushed Aquarion water deal removed public input and shifted control to New Haven, risking higher costs and less oversight. They argued that the process, which replaced professional regulation with an appointed board, could leave ratepayers with hidden financial burdens—undermining accountability.  The Ridgefield Press
  • Today, Connecticut officials require anyone using a kayak, canoe—or any manually propelled boat—to wear a life jacket on the water until May 31 because cold water can quickly become dangerous. They urge boaters to plan ahead by filing a boat plan with a friend and dressing in layers to stay safe.  The Ridgefield Press

SPORTS NEWS

  • Connecticut native and two-time World Series champion Charlie Morton retired from baseball today after an 18-year career pitching for seven teams, inspiring athletes from Joel Barlow High School—his journey reminds local fans that hard work can lead to national success.  News 12 Connecticut
