  • CT resident Christina Derevjanik won the $1 million grand prize on Wheel of Fortune on Tuesday night, becoming the fourth contestant to secure the top prize and the highest non-celebrity winner in the show's history—she also received extra cash and travel prizes.   • Experts at the Connecticut Agricultural Experiment Station report that milder winters allowed more yellowjackets to survive and now their numbers grow in orchards, cider mills & fruit areas. HEALTH NEWS

  • Regional Hospice and Home Care in Danbury received $2 million in state funding on Sept. 29 to expand its pediatric hospice care and help serve up to 30 children with life-limiting illnesses over the next two years—aiming to give families needed support with care and comfort. Lawmakers and hospice leaders worked together to fill gaps in specialized care amid a shortage of trained staff.  The Ridgefield Press

  • Connecticut residents are the only New England fans able to buy tickets for the Yankees-Red Sox Wild Card series at Yankee Stadium because Ticketmaster will verify residency with credit card billing information—this policy aims to stop ticket scalping and applies to people in New York, New Jersey, Connecticut and Pennsylvania.
