  • Boston-based Onyx Partners entered a purchase and sale agreement to buy 119 JCPenney properties—including the Danbury Fair store at 7 Backus Avenue—for $947 million in an all-cash deal expected to close before September 8, and the store will remain open as JCPenney changes its landlord.  WTNH-TV

CRIME NEWS

  • A Milford man — 35-year-old Charles Connors — was sentenced to four years in prison and five years probation after he drove the wrong way on Route 7 in 2023 and crashed head-on into a 25-year-old Danbury woman who later died at Danbury Hospital.  News 12 Connecticut

CULTURE NEWS

  • Good Morning America films live from Lake Compounce today for its '50 States in 50 Weeks' series and will showcase Connecticut culture by riding the Wildcat roller coaster — sampling local favorites such as lobster rolls, New Haven-style pizza and Louis' Lunch hamburgers; the segment airs on ABC between 7 and 9 a.m.  The Ridgefield Press

EDUCATION NEWS

  • On July 31, at Dunkin’ Park Logan McMikle—the daughter of a retired West Hartford firefighter—received the $2,000 Detective Robert 'Bobby' Garten Memorial Scholarship from the Detective Robert 'Bobby' Garten Memorial Fund. She attends Delaware State University and was honored ahead of the Hartford Yard Goats game that was postponed due to rain and will be rescheduled as a Saturday doubleheader.  WTNH-TV

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Connecticut created an Early Childhood Endowment Fund to help families pay for childcare as experts met on Thursday at Friends Center for Children to plan next steps. They will soon hold listening sessions statewide and send out surveys to better serve about 52,000 children by 2035—though the fund will help only around half of those in need.  WTNH-TV
