- ➤ The Danbury Library was honored with the inaugural Excellence in Public Libraries Award for Accessibility and Inclusion from the Connecticut State Library for its innovative Sensory Space — which hosted over 1,000 reservations during the 2024-2025 fiscal year — and the award marks the library’s leadership in accessibility. - ➤ Bloomfield native Anika Noni Rose, a Tony Award winner known for voicing Princess Tiana, is lending her voice to the animated Disney+ series Eyes of Wakanda which will have four episodes streaming on August 27th — she said on Instagram that she is very excited to join — adding to her strong career in acting. - ➤ AAA stated that almost 740,000 drivers in Connecticut will travel during the holiday weekend, marking a record increase of 2% over last year. Travel experts advise leaving before noon on Saturday— and before 11 a.m. on Sunday— to avoid heavy traffic. News 12 Connecticut
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Danbury Student and Business Connection celebrated 35 years of mentoring by awarding $1,000 scholarships to 13 graduating seniors at a June 3 breakfast at the Amber Room Colonnade—Mayor Roberto Alves, Dr. Kara Casimiro, and impact speaker Chef Shawn Osbey addressed the crowd while long-time mentor Sarah Bollert was honored for her service. - ➤ Fourteen participants graduated from the Danbury Parent Leadership Training Institute after completing a 20 week program that began in January and required a written community project to address local issues. The graduates were honored at ceremonies in Hartford on June 18 and in Danbury on June 20 — with one graduate elected to speak for the class and another receiving a community service award. Tribuna
- ➤ Danbury Public Schools participated in the Farm to School Institute last year and a team from Danbury High attended this year to build school gardens and integrate healthy meals in cafeterias. - ➤ The Department of Consumer Protection Liquor Control Division and DMHAS have launched an enforcement initiative to test if alcohol delivery services from package stores, restaurants, and grocery stores properly verify IDs to stop minors from receiving alcohol. The project, funded by a $20,000 grant (NLLEA), will assess compliance and require delivery drivers to complete mandated training and use valid permits. Tribuna
