GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The Connecticut DOT proposed a 5% fare increase for Metro-North, CTrail Hartford Line and Shore Line East starting September 1 with another 5% hike planned for next summer to fund rail improvements totaling $6 billion. The agency is holding public meetings and pop-up events until July 6 — from in-person sessions in Stamford and New Haven to virtual meetings— to gather community feedback.  The Ridgefield Press
  • Governor Ned Lamont announced yesterday that $18.8M in state grants was provided to assess and remediate 23 blighted properties spanning 227 acres across 19 towns—an effort that aims to attract private investment and create new housing opportunities. In Danbury, the city received two $200K grants to examine the former Fairfield County Courthouse for municipal office use and a historic hat manufacturing site for future redevelopment.  WTNH-TV

HEALTH NEWS

  • Connecticut Blood Center officials said supplies of type O-negative and B-negative blood are dangerously low, with only a two-day reserve, as they prepare for the busy summer trauma season. The center urges local donors to help replenish stocks+ ensuring hospitals have enough blood for emergency treatments.  WTNH-TV
