EDUCATION NEWS

  • The Connecticut House passed a bipartisan bill banning cellphones in classrooms statewide. If the Senate approves it and Gov. Lamont signs the law, school districts will have until the start of the 2027-2028 school year to put new rules in place.  WTNH-TV

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Gov. Ned Lamont signed a bill on Monday (House Bill 5044) that preserves state vaccine standards to ensure pharmacists can continue vaccines and help provide free flu shots for uninsured patients. The law gives the state more control over immunizations amid federal policy changes.  WTNH-TV

HEALTH NEWS

  • A new report by the American Lung Association shows nearly all counties in Connecticut, including Fairfield County, received a failing grade for air quality today; experts warn poor air conditions may trigger asthma, heart attacks & strokes.  News 12 Connecticut
  • French Broad Chocolates PBC is recalling Bette’s Bake Sale Bonbons after misprinted tasting notes swapped labels for Peach Cobbler and Walnut Fudge. Chocolates sold in Connecticut (April 14 to 20) may trigger tree nut allergies, so customers should return them for a refund.  WTNH-TV

  • Matt Gulbin, a Wilton High School standout with stops at Wake Forest and Michigan State, was selected in the sixth round by the Washington Commanders and will join rookie mini-camp on May 7.  News 12 Connecticut
